New Driveshaft
I've had some vibrations at speed, so I took my entire 2 piece driveshaft including the center carrier bearing in to a shop to take a look at it. It was a mess, they replace all the u-joints, front yoke to the transmission, front piece of the drive shaft tube and spline shaft at the carrier bearing as well as rebuilt my carrier support bearing. Just got it back and tomorrow, I'll give it a test drive. sure hope I notice a difference.

Re: New Driveshaft
Best of luck - hope that takes care of the wiggles.

Re: New Driveshaft
I'm hoping it does. When the guy looked at my driveshaft, first thing he said was you have some vibrations right?

Re: New Driveshaft
Many, many years ago, I too had issues with my driveshaft. I was replacing U-joints and such trying to get rid of vibrations.
I finally gave in and threw in the towel and took it to a shop. They replaced all of the U-joints, the center support bearing, and balanced it. I couldn't believe what a difference it made. That was nearly 20 years ago and I have had to replace one faulty U-joint and the center support bearing once last year. I've been thinking of pulling it out again and having the same shop go through and rework everything again. I think you made a smart move and hope that cures your vibrations issues as well. |
Re: New Driveshaft
Got my driveshaft back, They rebuilt the carrier bearing, all the u-joints, transmission spline, secondary spline and the front tube. Balanced the entire unlit. Defiantly an improvement, now I realize I should probably get new tires. I have cheap AT type tires and they are not the smoothest in the world.
Anyone have suggestions for AT type tires that are smooth and fairly quiet on the highway. I know I should go with a highway tread, but really like the look of an all terrain type tire. |
Re: New Driveshaft
I'm considering these A/T's for a winter specific tire for my Duramax.
I haven't heard any feedback nor do I have any experience them. https://www.mickeythompsontires.com/.../baja-boss-a-t |
Re: New Driveshaft
If you want good traction in dirt and snow, try the General Grabber atx. They are similar to BFG A/T, but cost less. I have some on my small Blazer. They are ok on the highway, but occasionally they break loose taking off on wet pavement. (but most A/T tires will do that)
