Oil pressure gauge noisy and bouncing after ls swap
The gauge makes a rubbing noise and bounces up towards the high part of the gauge. I replaced the gauge with a used unit and it’s the same thing. Anyone else seen this? Do I just need a new one, perhaps calibrated for higher pressures? I was going to hook up a cheap mechanical and see how it behaves.

My stock gauge works fine with the LS1 in my '67 Panel Truck. I drilled & tapped the stock sender housing for the line. I am going to move this to the "LSx Swaps" forum. LockDoc |
Re: Oil pressure gauge noisy and bouncing after ls swap
The gauge in my green truck doesn't make any noise, that I can hear anyway, but it does bounce when the engine is warm. Been doing that for the last 54k miles that it's been in the truck, so I don't worry about it.

Re: Oil pressure gauge noisy and bouncing after ls swap
The stock gauge in my '71 works perfectly. With the 1st LS that had oil pressure issues, the gauge would bounce when oil warm/hot and pressure was low (about 1/4 on the scale) at idle.
The replacement LS (without oil pressure issues) the gauge works perfectly. A bit above 3/4 when cold and a bit above 1/2 when warm/hot both at idle. No bouncing of the needle. |
Re: Oil pressure gauge noisy and bouncing after ls swap
Thanks for responses. Maybe I just need to order a new one. It’s the metal rubbing sound that’s more annoying than the bouncing.
