New Hood?

Hey guys I'm looking for advice on reproduction hoods because mine is bent and rusty. I understand that the cheap ones are just that cheap. I am in So. Cal and OEM ones are nearly impossible to find.

Can you recommend a great replacement?

Thanks in advance!

Same boat here in Michigan. If they are not rusty they are all bent up. I went with one from GMC Paul’s I think it was a Triplus brand and it fit really well. But it still needed a fair amount of body work to get it straight.

So those used hoods really are worth $3-400? I thought the repros would be close enough.

Does anyone have any experience with the "Restoration Grade" hoods that GMC Paul's and LMC sells?

I've seen lots of panels from these folks, all top notch.

I had a new in the box GM hood a few years ago. The hood was listed here and other places for sale, not a single bite. I was asking 300.00, which is less than an aftermarket hood. A close friend bought a square body and i ended up giving it to him.

I'm assuming you're looking for a 73-80 hood?

I am looking for a 1973-1978, but prairieschooner comes first as he is the one that started this thread.

Re: New Hood?

I haven't bought a hood yet. My plan is to buy a restoration quality hood. I have purchased a front section of floor pan for my 71 blazer. That is the new restoration grade and the stamping on it and the bends etc are far better than the several others I have used.

Re: New Hood?

I figured those were the years you were looking for, based on the bending comment. Much more typical on the first half of the squarebody series than the second half. Just thought I'd ask because I will end up with a couple of extra hoods but they are the later, angled ones.

I haven’t received my hood yet, but I bought a “premium hood” from Holley. I didn’t realize they were selling body panels now. I bought from them for 3 reasons
(a) Holley is 80 miles from me even tho I can’t pick it up and it must be shipped

(B) not many people have 73-80 hoods in stock right now on back order everywhere

(C) claim......”They are not thin and flimsy like many other hoods on the market as they are made just like OE with heavy gauge steel for high strength”.

How did this turn out?

I couldn’t be happier! It’s heavy and fit perfect.... I highly recommend it, aftermarket metal is WAY better that it was a few years back
