Where would you mount (tape) the speakers for my 8 track?

Would be curious the volume level you will get out of these if enough wonder if you can mount under your seat facing out

It should have sufficient volume as I always play low and for the most part its for looks.

Yeah, I know. I was really kidding. I know how people nowdays are aghast at the notion of making speaker holes in the doors just for 6'' speakers. But in 1978, it was not considered a big deal. It was just a 10 year-old used truck, and I wanted to Rock & Roll. Who had any idea we'd even be alive 43 years later, let alone running the same rig. Where's my HoverCar?

I literally said “no!” out loud when I read the door idea.... lol.
I’ve had speakers behind the seat and I wasn’t happy with the stereo sound quality. I’ve had them at the kick panels as well. Not bad there but the relationship to the parking brake is usually a challenge. The CB hump is intriguing.

I had a person say something like that on another site and they were serious... they wanted me to use a CB mag mount on the top of the cab.

You are correct that in years gone by cutting holes was normal. What were we thinking back in the day :lol:

Consider getting a piece of carpet (or canvass, rubber, or whatever) that closely matches your carpet (or nicely contrasts/accents it) and cut it so it lays over the transmission hump (close to the seat). Attach the speakers to it, one facing left and the other right. This can be slid under the seat when not being used or displayed and can be accented by a tissue box style cup holder thingy that would sit between them. Those speakers look time specific and should be seen when showing the truck off.

If you have the stock in-cab tank, you will not be able to get one in on the driver's side unless you remove the tank.

As far as the tape deck, CB style mount low and center unless you have a manual shift on the floor.

Since my truck is still only "Seat Belts", my friend had installed his in the upper cab corners and ran the wire up thru the shoulder belt hole. I have since removed them, so no pictures.

I am mounting my speakers in these that I purchased from Brothers, I believe that they make them with no cut-out as well.

I would surface mount in upper rear cab corners and hide the wires. Although those speaker and speaker cases are cool retro, I would replace the speakers themselves with a more modern speaker just for sound quality but keep the retro grill cover. Those are 5 1/4" speakers or 4"? Even if those were NOS, I doubt they would sound very good. Paper speakers degrade rather fast whether they are used or not. Those were not high quality even when new.

A CB Mag Mount would be problematic, as HiFi speakers use electromagnetism as their dynamic force. An EM field too close to the speaker coil may affect sound fidelity.

''What were we thinking?'' We were thinking: this is a handy spot, out of the way, unused space. It has a clear path to the Cab Center. It's just an ''old'' truck. It's mine. Paid for already. I'll do what I want.

One note for anyone who actually wants to cut speaker holes in their doors [not likely] or, more probably, already has doors so-modified by a PO -- You need to put sound insulation on the back of the speakers to keep unwanted reverberations [and rattling] out of the door cavities. Dynamat lining of the lower door interior would also mellow it out. The speaker hole is handy when replacing the Window Regulator.

I have no stereo right now. I went back to a very simple, no accessories profile on my '68 C/10, while it was waiting for a fresh engine in 2005.
I have a Cigar Lighter socket so I can recharge my cell, or plug in a GPS.
The old Jensen 6-1/4'' speakers still fill the holes, but I'd need new speakers if I put in another AM/FM rig.

I’m thinking of going with a dual coned dash speaker but I think I’d mount those on the side of a cb hump mount down on the floor. I think I’d stuff some sound insulation behind the cones before mounting them. If the mount is removable, you could use a couple black/red quick connects on the wires in case you ever needed to take them out temporarily.
At the risk of pirating the post, has anyone tried the overhead sound headliner ? I think LMC carries them. I haven’t seen one installed though.

I put a pair of small KLH 970A box speakers on their side under the seat facing forward and they sound very good.

That’s close enough for me as that is about when they went from 23 channel to 40 channel

95% of the people will have no clue to the year of mfg but... the Kris 50 is a cool looking cb radio vs a cobra or other similar radio.
