Radiator Mesh Screen - Stock?
2 Attachment(s)
My truck has a mesh screen in front of the radiator. Is this something that would be stock equipment or something installed by the previous owner to keep rocks from getting to the radiator? Should it be removed? Like would it be something that could cause the truck to overheat?

Re: Radiator Mesh Screen - Stock?
Those were quite common back in the day. They were sold as "bug screens" and intended to keep bugs from caking in/on the radiator core. Shouldn't have a big effect on cooling unless caked with bugs, vegetation, etc.

Re: Radiator Mesh Screen - Stock?
That is interesting. Seems useful for keeping bugs out of the radiator fins. I remember in 2017 the lovebug invasion here and you could hardly go outside without breathing in the bugs, they were ridiculously thick in the air. Gulf coast and the bugs.

Re: Radiator Mesh Screen - Stock?
I had one once. Got it at the local Checker Auto. Not very expensive. Mine was made of nylon, not copper mesh. Finally rotted away and I haven't missed it.

I think mine was still on the truck when I started the teardown in 2010.
