'76 K20 front axle dust cap?
1 Attachment(s)
My old '75 and the '76 axle I just rebuilt use these little dust caps. They seem like something that would be pretty cheap and easy to find but I have never been able to locate a source. These are the external hub axles, and maybe that's why they aren't more common. I didn't realize how hard to find they were and didn't use as much care as I probably should have removing them (oops). I have them more or less beat back into shape now but not sure I trust them to stay on forever.
Anyone know where to buy these things? |

There's one on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/32486070730...8AAOSwE5JhgFPL

Yeah that looks like it. Ouch. It looks like Torque King sells them too, only retailer I've found and they are even more there: https://torqueking.com/product/40597...ge-4x4-trucks/
I guess if nothing else this can serve as a warning to others to not mangle these things if you don't have to. I would have thought they would be a lot more common (cheap) that they are. This last axle I rebuilt was almost a solid hunk of rust when I got it and I just assumed those caps were a cheap throw-away item. I've replaced almost every part of this axle at this point, I guess another $50-$60 isn't going to wreck me. |

I thought they had all been converted to part-time axles by now.

I was actually just pricing out the locking hubs. Milemarker set isn't that much more than a pair of those dust caps.
I had terrible luck with those locking hubs on external drive axles. I think most of my issues were due to driving on snow and ice a lot (spin, catch, boom). Here in MO I would probably be fine. |
