Why is the light on constantly?

I noticed my battery going down if I did not drive it for a few days. One night I went out and the light that lights up the gear position was on. The P R N D L1 L2 is what I am talking about. ANyone have any ideas about this?

thanks

well that light isnt suppoused to be on unless you have your headlights/markers on. Im guessing you have a short in the column with one of the wires that is constantly hot ( ignition) id look there first

that light is really not a light at all.............
it's a fiber optic cable coming from the dash bezal.....
try turning the dimmer to see if the light get's brighter?

more than likely a bad head light switch............
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU :D

My guess is that the truck has tilt and the light is plugged into the wrong spot on the fuse panel. There is no way for the fiber optic cable to have light on it without the dash lights being on if it is hooked up the stock way.

I'll take a guess and say you have a tilt column.
Look on the bottom of the collumn under the dash where the harness comes out. Find the gray wire that is seperate from all the others. Follow that to the fuse box, and unplug it from the constant hot circuit, and install it on the one that says lights (Or somethign to that effect) This will make it so that light will only come on with your headlight switch in either park light position, or in the headlight on position.
If you don't have a tilt, then some one has been in there and done a conversion with a light bulb instead of the fiber-optic cable that it is supposed to have. Follow the same as above.
If you DO have a fiber optic cable running from the collumn to the inst. panel, then you have some big wireing trouble that you need to sort out. (like dash lights staying on).
