CPP Rear Shock Crossmember thoughts?

I am putting together some parts to do a 3.5/5 static drop and was looking at options to change the shock location / angle. For $130 the CPP 6372RTSC doesn't look too bad. Anyone have experience using this part?

First off I have no experience with that part. So this is merely my opinion.
According to the question on Summit's site it doesn't give you any increase in shock length. If that is true I would replace the stock mounts with some easy DIY mounts and put that $130 into the shock budget.
Here is a link to how I did mine. Starting on post 517.

The CPP shock relocation kit will change the shock location/angle. Which is what you mention:

This is what I used on stock crossmember.

It appears the crossmember might be only window dressing. I can't find anything saying what it might change or improve.

Good call. I keep seeing these shock relocation brackets, and they look pretty basic, so I was looking for another route. Looking at your thread, and the OG thread I think I will make my own.

Thanks for the reply. Those are the relocation kits I keep seeing as well. Looks like I'll be making my own.

CPP's set-up is great if you're missing the shock x-member or if it has structural issues. If there's nothing wrong w/the x-member, I would go home-made if possible or do No Limits rear shock relocation.

If you can do your own fab work, this would be a good way to go....

Many years ago I used brackets similar to those below on my 69 C10. They were made by Early Classic Enterprises. Those guys were the best, but they are no longer around.

The whole idea was to mount the shocks more upright after installing 3" dropped springs. I don't recall if the shocks are shorter than stock, but I do remember the rear end bounced around less.

If needed, shorter shocks like these are available:

You can re-work the stock brackets to do the same thing for those on a budget:

No Harm, no foul. Sometimes guys (including me) don't read every response, just the initial question.:)

Or maybe jimijam00 was simply agreeing with your recommendation.

True, No harm or foul.

I read the responses when possible (first initial page/pages of thread) so I don't repost info already suggested. I get it though when the thread is 40 pages....

Re: CPP Rear Shock Crossmember thoughts?

I installed crossmember with CPP rear coilover kit and CPP's tubular rear end kit. Zero issues with fitment. Also used CPP track bar kit that provided proper spacing for my aluminum rear end cover. I am building just a basic street truck a 5.3 and 4L60E. Boils down to your budget and what your trying to accomplish.

Sorry that bothers you. Would you like me to delete the link or the entire post?

Thanks for the replies. I haven't done anything yet, but I will either be making new shock brackets from 2in tubing, or I will modify the stock mounts.

I wanted to ask a question, but wasn't sure if I should revive that old thread.

Is the only benefit of flipping and flattening the stock brackets to increase shock travel length? I was doing some fitting and testing today after I cut and shaped the new brackets, and it looks like flipping that bracket will make that the lowest point of the rear end.

Yes, flipping the brackets allows more shock travel since they're now .750" below the bottom of the T/A vs. .750" above. They do fall below the scrub-line on the T/A but I don't recall them being lower than say the brake drum.

On lowered T/A apps (using lowering blocks), if over 1.5" blocks are used, the U-bolt ends are usually the lowest point & are below the scrub-line

Makes sense to me. Thanks for the reply.
