Front rotors and brake calipers..whats the best?
Figured I would reach out and ask opinions of front Calipers, Rotors and pads for a K10?
Do I upgrade and use a slotted disc? Remanufactured ACDELCO Calipers? WildWood? Carbon Fiber pads? |
Re: Front rotors and brake calipers..whats the best?
I really don’t know the answer but I can tell you that the acdelco reman ones are hit and miss. Just buy local and take a look before you pay. I had to send some back to Rock Auto recently and that’s a PITA. They appeared to be almost completely rusted away and then cleaned up. One of the ears was pretty much gone. You think they would screen cores better that that…

Re: Front rotors and brake calipers..whats the best?
My mechanic sourced all the brake parts locally. Although I did put the Wildwood calipers on the front. Replaced the rotors with stock rotors, no slotted ones.

Re: Front rotors and brake calipers..whats the best?
What year is your K10? I'm assuming 71-72. If so, It's pretty hard to beat stock calipers and Wagner semi-metallic pads, or Wagner severe duty pads. They will just about push you into the steering wheel, assuming your master cylinder, booster, and rear drums are in good shape.

Rebuild the calipers yourself. They are not that hard to do. You will need a caliper cyl. hone but it is not very expensive. I like the ceramic pads. Great stopping power & they do not get the wheels dirty.

Very happy with my Wilwood 6 piston front/4 piston rear. Crazy good stopping power and has a great feel.

Re: Front rotors and brake calipers..whats the best?
I like to use off the shelf items I can get at a local parts store for maintenance parts myself. With the Ram 3500 brake upgrade on my truck, the rotors and calipers are OEM in stock pieces. Yes they are not GM but readily available. Picked up all the parts same day. Slotted and drilled rotors will fade less but provide less initial stopping power. It is a personal choice
