Windshield

What's everyone doing for replacement windshields? The only ones I find at the local glass shop is green tint with the shaded band on top. LMC says 6-8 weeks for the straight green tint. Should I wait or use the shaded one? I can save on shipping with LMC or a local shop.

I guess that all depends on your personal preference. I will be driving my 68 a lot after it is all finished, so the shaded band along the top will help in cutting sun glare down as I drive.

It is all up to you as to how you do it. Are you looking to show yours?

You might try these guys.

Of course if the glass shop installs the window and it breaks you purchase another one.
If it's their product they typically cover it.
I used AutoCityClassic.
Available Colors: Clear, Green Tint with Shade Band and Custom Grey Tint with Shade Band
Price:$119.00

I purchased the Custom Grey Tint and love it. Service was excellent and shipping reasonable.
Cheers.

When I did my frame off I went with Safelite, green tint to match the other windows, with shade band. Brand is Plinkington. I do have the SS trim from and rear. The guy that installed it told me he was from another area and was called in for this job.

I replaced my cracked stock non-tinted windshield with a green tinted one about two years ago. I really noticed a difference when driving in sunny weather. I hardly need sunglasses now.

I am pretty AR about originality on my truck but bent the rules a little for the tinted windshield. I don't regret it. I found a local glass shop that said they had experience with vintage cars.

Sounds like my option will be the green tint with the dark band on top. I really don't feel like waiting 2 months to get the straight green tint. Plus the local glass shop can get it for $120.00.

If you have a factory seat (or same height) and you’re on the tall side, a shaded band could encroach on your line of sight. Your results may vary.

Good point. All of those variables will come into play. I would really like to have the straight green tint, but no one has it. Seems like everything I try to get lately is out of stock. It's not just parts for these trucks, it's everything. Stuff that used to take 7-10 days now takes 4 months.

i had the windshield replaced in my truck last fall and had the local glass place order in one for me, tinted and shaded.the PPG warehouse is 3 hours away so they had it next day.my truck has A/C so A11 factory tinted glass all around anyway but the windshield had been replaced at some point in it's life.i don't know if it originally had a tinted and shaded windshield or not but it does now.very happy with it although they had to do it twice,a lousy job the first time,i wasn't happy and let them know.i guess the old time glass guys, like everyone else are disappearing?all good now.

I have the green , with the shaded band at the top, and really like it, on the 71, my son and I installed the windshield, and the back glass in my home garage, using new gaskets, the lmc rope kit, and a little soapy water, we took our time, and the install went smoothly...all be it we really went slow, on the windshield, with it being laminated safety glass.we also used the little flat install tool too, that really was a big help working it in, and a curved pick for the corners..i think I lost a pound or two, from the august heat when we did the job, lol, good luck on the choice!:chevy:

Re: Windshield

My old cab has perfect glass and my new cab has cracked glass and every local guy says they won't touch it "guaranteed"; they'll touch it with no guarantees...
I am tall and my seat has my head almost at the roof(but I like my seating position and have no plans of seat changes...), am afraid of going through installation of the shaded band type and regretting it.

This part of the build is coming soon and has me worried quite a bit. I am genuinely considering running the new cabs original cracked windshield for the time being if 1) it doesn't leak, and 2) just to wait it out till I find the right old timer I can trust. All the local glass shops won't touch it because if you look in the back of their shop, every bonehead they have working for them is 21years old. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...03cb4f6b77.gif
