DIY window Regulator and OEM Style Switch

First off credit goes where credit is due. bonnieclyde100 thread on cheap power regulators is my inspiration for my design. Below is the address to his thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=601167 Ok, now on to my design. I wanted to have OEM style window switch to fit the theme of my truck. I will be doing an option 2 as when I took the passenger regulator apart the spring shot parts everywhere. Lost the regulator gear portion of the crank so I will be coming back with an option 2 for the switch. (I'm sure I will find the gear after I get done with option 2 design. LOL) |

Well here is the last part of the lengthy tread. Option 2 was a bit easier to do but did have a bit more slop in the crank assembly. I also revised the bracket to be smaller and tabs to be taller so the springs can be installed easier. I option 1 photo's of the final assemblies I put them together backwards. The final assembly photo in option 2 shows how I should have assembled it. No trimming of the tabs is required if put together correctly.

Nice solid set up, should work well....Thanks for sharing.....Anyone taking these regulators apart should be very careful not to loose a finger or worse.

Re: DIY window Regulator and OEM Style Switch
Glad I could help. Just trying to pay back all the help I got from this forums members.
NOTE: Yes, I could have handled the spring better. Found out after the fact that if you just run it all the way down and past the end of the gear there is NO tension on the spring and it just falls off. |

Quick update. Yesterday I ran into a slight problem. I was testing the power assembly in the door. When I ran it all the way down it went so far that the arm gear hit the switch arm and jammed it. So I welded a stop on the gear arm just to be sure I didn't have the issue again.

Re: DIY window Regulator and OEM Style Switch
Thanks DM. It has been an adventure getting it all figured out and working. But I'm definitely on the downside of the hill. Once I get it all put together I will post some pics.
Right now I'm installing the new glass in the sashes. Hope to install the glass on Saturday if everything goes right. |
