Help with Frame ID

This frame has a cab off a 66 but the owner thought maybe the frame is a 67-72. I figured the professionals here would know what it is.

Re: Help with Frame ID
A good picture of the bumper would help.
From that picture that appears to be a 67-70 bumper. From research of other threads. That it is probably a 1970 frame from St. Louis. Because partial VIN's are stamped on the frame. The first digit on the frame would be the 5th digit in the VIN of the truck. 5th digit is last number of the year and 6th digit is Assembly plant. Link: https://gmcpauls.com/67-72_chevy.htm |
Re: Help with Frame ID
Okay thanks! I was looking in other threads but I couldn’t figure out how the frame number meshed into the VIN. I’ll see if I can get a picture of the bumper.

Re: Help with Frame ID
Also is it possible that the 0 could be 1960?

I think the 60-62 frames look like this,
From what I have read on here the front bumpers won't interchange from the 60-66 to a 67-70 frame. Attachment 2160611 |

Re: Help with Frame ID
Ya that’s certainly not the same bumper. The frame must be a 70 then. Thanks for the help.

Re: Help with Frame ID
I see disc brakes

Re: Help with Frame ID
I believe the front is a d44. Maybe converted or out of a newer truck?

Re: Help with Frame ID
Definitely a 70 4x4 frame. I’m guessing K10 long bed. That’s a th350/205, looks like it’s got the ‘70 only automatic tranny transfer case shifter still there as well. Also looks like the transfer case crossmember is still riveted. Front axle had to have been swapped at some point but still a great find if the rust isn’t too bad, which it doesn’t appear to be.

Re: Help with Frame ID
Fantastic thank you. The block casting is 330817. Looks like it’s a 400 small block. Did these trucks come with a 400sbc?
|
Re: Help with Frame ID
No sir, no big blocks or 400 small blocks for the 4x4 trucks. The 350 was the biggest V8 you could get in a 67-72 4x4.
That should be a 400 casting. Not a bad score at all if it’s still good. |
Re: Help with Frame ID
Okay thank you. Time to negotiate.
