Time for a brake.
1 Attachment(s)
It's time for a brake, job that is. After quite a delay in getting started it's time to bring the ol' dog back to life. We'll be starting with making it stop before making it go. And to that end we're starting with the rear axle. I believe it's an Eaton HO32 non posi unit. I'd like to service it and gather up the parts prior to starting so, if I may, my questions are as follows:
Are axle bearings available? And if so are offset bearings available? What size seal are needed for the axles? Are rear cover gaskets available? Gear oil weight? Is there a brake rebuild kit available for this axle? Thanks in advance for your time. Regards, Desert Dog |
Re: Time for a brake.
I did a bit of poking around on my 1960...
Here are the parts that I used for bearings / seals ; Timkin : R1502EL - bearing SKF : 18695 - seal the best prices I found was on RockAuto, searching by PN I believe we just used " the right stuff " or your preferred gasket sealer instead of a gasket and 80w90 - I want to say just over 2 qts, but its been a little bit. I ordered shoes (AC Delco) from Rock Auto, and I had done the cylinders and springs from Rock Auto on an earlier order. Hope that helps! Here is some of the other info I found while researching - https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...1&postcount=12 |
Re: Time for a brake.
Thanks for the reply, it's appreciated.
I did notice in the spec sheet it says there are no C clips but there are circlips. I am assuming this is to hold the axle in place. Are new circlips needed when pulling the axles? Thanks again. |
Re: Time for a brake.
I unfortunately was only sourcing parts on that project - we did not replace the circlips on my service / axle replacement - but I also didn't see them readily available when I was hunting parts.
