Opinion on this if you will on Square Body Trucks
If two Chevy trucks are equal in all ways ,,and one of them is a year or so older that the other ,,does that make it worth more or less.

Depends on which yrs..I would give more for a 77 than I would a 82 for instance

I would prefer the 1980 simpler engine ( no EFI) and im more of a fan of the rounded fenders than the straight line.. plus its older older is cooler in my book probably because i too now am old

Another consideration might be the emissions rules for the potential buyer's location. If for example a location had rules exempting 81 and older vehicles from emissions rules/checks, for a buyer in that location an 80 could be worth more then an 82 while a buyer in a different location that still required full emissions check for both years might value them pretty much the same.

Not everyone knows a shop where the guy will look the other way if it passes function. Still I am a fan of the 73-77 versions. Although I wouldn't pass up any square body if the money's right. |

If everything is perfectly equal, then I would guess the older one is worth slightly more. But there's also certain aspects of the older trucks that make them less desirable. For example, a 1979 half-ton truck came with the undesirable np203 transfer case, but the 1981 half-ton trucks had the np208. The np208 is lighter and provides better fuel economy, which in turn makes the trucks a little more practical for daily-driving. |

Personally I think the 87's bring a bit more than the other year - the last year (best grille/look of the 81-87 run) along with the only year it was EFI makes them desirable.

For me anything older like 1973-1979 is worth WAY more (all things considered) than anything built from 1981 on. I am somewhat in the middle on 1980's.

Funny story:
When I first saw the '81 models I didn't like them so I hurried and bought an '80. When I first saw the '88 GMT400 models I didn't like them so I hurried and bought an '87. My dad always teased me; he'd say "...you would have seen the '55 Chevy's, not liked them, and hurried to buy a '54". K |

I can relate to that sorta ; When I was looking for a used Chevy and seen the 58's I looked until I found a 57 |
Re: Opinion on this if you will on Square Body Trucks
I guess I'm pretty much echoing what has been said here, but it really depends on what years you are comparing. AND what your preferences are. 87 has fuel injection, some like it some don't. 77 has the one year only ocher paint in the trim. The round eyes tend to evoke a little more excitement than the later trucks. I tend to favor the later trucks since they are on average 100 pounds lighter and have some aerodynamic adjustments. But if I found the right round eye, I would snap it up for sure. In general, if you want to compare, say, an 83 to an 84, I don't think there's any value difference at all. Probably whichever has the fewer miles.

As I stated before I bought a brand new 73 square body right off the show room floor ..and liked it and sold it after the rust took out some fenders down low . This 83 I have now I believe they built it different Attachment 2171597 Attachment 2171598 |
