73-87 Spindles for discs on 66 C10 with Moog part numbers

All,

Ran across a YouTube channel by Rene Krause that demonstrated this swap. He listed the Part Numbers required, was wondering if anyone else has done this swap like this. With these parts, you can use your stock 66 upper and lower control arms, centerlink, and idler arm. Pitman arm will be a 71 as part of my P/S swap.

73-87 Spindles
73-87 Calipers
6 Lug Rotors from CPP etc
2 73-87 Lower Ball joints - Moog P/N K6136
2 73-87 Upper Ball joints - Moog P/N K6117T
66 Idler Arm - Moog P/N K14
2 60-66 OUTER Tie rods (will function as INNERS) - Moog P/N ES350L
2 73-87 OUTER Tie rods (will function as OUTERS) - Moog P/NES409RT
CPP Coupler - P/N CP4SC-SAR

Thoughts?

Was it with Power steering or Manual steering?

That’s a great list.
The only thing I would add is,… make sure you use the HD 73-87 parts.
These are for the 1-1/4” wide, calipers, bearings, and of course spindles.
The Light Duty 1” stuff that was ALSO used from 81-87 WONT work with the aftermarket 6-lug rotors.

Yup, that should work nicely for you. I have a kit that did the same thing to keep the stock control arms. It has worked well for me since I installed it over 6 years ago. Like what Keith said, it's very important to get the 1.25" rotor, spindle, and caliper though if you plan to keep it 6 lug

He had already converted to power steering in his videos I believe.

Thanks Keith. The guy that has them listed, listed the spindles as 73-79 so they should be the HD spindles, so should be good to go.

For my own education, is there a way to identify the Light Duty spindles vs the HD versions? Or certain P/N's or casting numbers to avoid?

Not that I know of.
But I mainly deal with aftermarket drop spindles.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=727826 I did it with 75 year model spindles back in 2017.

Good thread, I'll need to start figuring out the route I will take with the M/C and Booster. I bought Captain Fab's bracket a bit ago...

He told me that he took them off his 77 when he added the drop spindles, so no worries about Light Duty parts. They cleaned up nicely...

OK, Next Question. I have CaptainFab's bracket, and will just get a brake booster off a 88-98 Full-sized pickup per CaptainFab's recommended list.

What Master Cylinder for this for Fr Disc/Rear Drum? Will I need to modify the intermediate or primary pushrods? I've searched but the info is overwhelming and not easy to sort through.

Thanks!

You can use the '88-'98 master cylinder or you can use a '73-'79 master cylinder. The intermediate pushrod should be correct. You will have to lengthen the booster pushrod to reach the brake pedal.
