CustomCamper/ = CST?
I have had a few 69 70 CustomCamper trucks over the years and i think all had the CST option. Even the CustomCamper/10 i had. I assumed that all CC trucks had the cst option. Can anyone verify or disprove? I looked at a nicely optioned 70 model without any CST stuff on it recently and don't recall seeing a CC truck without that option.

Re: CustomCamper/ = CST?
My '69 is a 3/4 ton CST. It does not have the CustomCamper badges on the fenders. It has CST/20 badges. However, the SPID includes all the options to qualify the truck as a Custom Camper. As I understand it, the CustomCamper badges were a no cost option for trucks such as mine that have certain required options regardless of the trim level. In other words the CustomCamper badges could be ordered on any of the trim levels as long as the truck had all the required options. These options were things related to tire load ratings, springs, etc.
EDIT: See post 7 for '69 3/4 CustomCamper badge requirements. Also a pic of my SPID. |

Here are some pics of my 70 chev CC. Don't let the GMC gate fool you. I still need to find a Chevy one in this color. |

Here's a picture from the GM Heritage Center Vehicle Information Kit that shows the requirements for the CustomCamper badges on a '69 3/4 ton. Also my SPID.

Re: CustomCamper/ = CST?
The Custom Camper Z81 RPO evolved over the years.
In 65-66, it was an appearance/comfort and functional HD suspension/camper mirror package. Selecting the Z81 option netted a buyer the Custom Comfort, Custom Appearance, Custom Chrome, Deluxe Heater/Defroster, tinted windshield, radio, and west coast mirror options - and the heavy duty stuff you'd expect like front sway bar, HD rear shocks, aux springs, etc. But in 67 (when the Z84 CST option came into existence), the Custom Camper Z81 option became just the nameplate that had a required minimum equipment list that consisted of the HD suspension parts and tires only (no comfort, convenience, appearance items). But the answer to your original question is that Z81 Custom Camper and Z84 CST RPOs could be ordered together or independently throughout the 67-72 era (and there were plenty of non-CST Custom Campers (EDIT: and non-Custom Camper CSTs like Jim's beautiful 69) running around). |

Here is the SPID from the '68. It doesn't list the Custom Camper name plate as an option on it. LockDoc |

Re: CustomCamper/ = CST?
Interesting. So if the truck was a CST with the custom camper option in 69 or 70 it would get that emblem and not a cst emblem i guess.

That's correct - for 67-71 trucks, if Z81 was ordered, it replaced whatever fender trim-related badge would have been there if Z81 hadn't been ordered. Here are two examples - a 69 C10 CST Custom Camper and a 71 C20 Cheyenne Super Custom Camper. In 72, when the door scripts replaced fender nameplates for Custom Campers, ordering Z81 got ya the door scripts. One of the "ones that got away" was a very nice 69 C20 CST Custom Camper in white/saddle/white... Ohh... I still wish I'd bought that truck.

Re: CustomCamper/ = CST?
Don't know who ordered the truck I have, as it was three years old when my FiL bought it, in '73. It is both CST and a Custom Camper, and has the Custom Camper emblems. Not calling anyone wrong, just reporting what I have.

65 - 1 year only (1st year) 66-68 69-71 72 - 1 year only on door (for chevs) Then in 73, the custom camper became the camper special and nameplates moved to the cab aft of the door handles with GVWR identifiers. |

As Jocko correctly mentioned, the Custom Camper package de evolved between '65-'72. The package originally consisted of many comfort and appearance goodies in addition to a heavy duty suspension. Between '67-'72 it became mainly a heavy duty suspension option, the buyer or dealer ordering it was supposed to "build it up". My biggest pet peeve between '67-'72 was the package did not automatically include larger mirrors. IMO, mirror shown below should have been included, at least for the '70-'72 years
