So, I've owned this truck since 1997. I wrecked it being stupid in 2000 and found that when you buy from a "Quality" autobody shop it's not always the great product you thought it was. I had replaced all the floor/cab corners/rockers/firewall and the just let it sit in the shed for the next 21yrs waiting. Fast forward to May of 2021 and I yanked it outta the shed, tore it down to a cab and frame and started the Gasser project "Spare Parts".

Yes I'm building it as a Gasser tribute

Front suspension is QA1 double adjustable, stock springs with 1" lift pucks, stock spindles, Wilwood calipers ad manual master cylinder

Rear suspension is Moser trailing arms, QA1 rear double adjustable coilover setup, speedway motors rear disc conversion on a 14 bolt setup like a 454ss truck (measures 1/4" wider than my old stock 71 12 bolt).

5.3/4l80e/billet 7875 engine combo, Vintage air kit is installed also
Roll cage is phenomenally done and I'm so pleased with my builder's quality.

Now to keep plugging away and see street miles by May

Finished the main 1/0awg power wire to Battery disconnect from the front. I was able to complete the 4"exhaust and downpipe too, over the last weekend. Now time to start on the full chassis wiring. I did get a ClassicDash replacement panel for the Holley 6.86" Pro Dash and its much nicer than the Munssey Speed carbon fiber dash panel I was going to use.

more and I forgot I painted the core support and misc cooler brackets. But downpipe comes back off, gets cleaned up/pressure tested and then sento off to be coated.

So, I got the truck all assembled, carpeted and all. it actually drove a little bit. Had some transmission gremlins appear, defective part. But I actually drove it for a 1/2 mile for the first time in 22+years. I tucked the 10# fire bottle into the console slightly before the carpet install as well. Happy and irritated, but its a running/driving truck again. Total time from bare cab and frame to now about 7 months off/on in the garage.

Well finally got about 65 miles on it in 3 days after work. Loaded it up on the trailer and headed south for Rocky Mountain Raceweek 2.0. First pass in 23yrs was ugly...a 13.6@95 scared it was gonna go in the wall. 3rd pass 2 days later it was 1.61 60'ing lifting the drivers tire. Fuel sloshes away from pickup, so I still have that issue to fix. Oh BTW I took 3rd in the gasser class and the truck has 1158miles on it now.

Just updating again. I won Gasser class again with the 6.0/s480 engne combo, At RockyMountainRaceweek 2.0, pulled a popup and all my crap over 1200 miles. only cooked 2 cooling fan relays and the turn signal level came loose and caused a short on the horn circuit.

Sooooooo because I'm and idiot and i want to go faster.....and the rules for the Gasser classes keep changing. I went tubular control arms and rack and pinion steering (only took 4.5 months for POL to ship). I also purchased a 1 piece front end from USAutobody (awesome to work with, but 4+ month lead-time). All that to barely have a month to get ready for Rocky Mountain MegaWeek..........

Hoping to shave 350#'s total front/rear from the 4303# full fuel tanks (20gal main, 8 gal race) weight I'm currently at, without me.

Well I double entered for Session A and Session B at Rocky Mountain RaceWeek's MEGAWEEK. I was doing well in the A session "Gasser" class, and the B session "Unlimited" class (to save drive time at night from earlier class calls). But unfortunately, the clutches welded themselves in the trans..... and then subsequently unwelded themselves taking me out after day 3. Alas here are some pics

Oh and to answer the fiberglass front clip question, weight before was 4308#'s with both fuel cells 1/2 full. Weight after was 4017#'s same tank levels. but truck raised 1" higher front and rear and seats swapped to more comfortable Toyota Celica GT (with 5point cutouts) from the previous Honda Prelude.

Well.....

In the shiny light of my lackluster judgement, I'm going full manual trans now. Here is my new faceplated t56 magnum Stage 5+ RPM trans for the truck. I'm just waiting for the clutch assembly to show up. Then the deconstruction and reconstruction shall begin.:ito:

Then I got the junk outta the way for the dirt work guys to come in and start prepping for my new shop:mm:

Going to lose a little more weight w/the trans swap (just a little).

Glad it's going well on the track!

Finally took a day and worked on just my stuff, past months nights of an hour here and an hour there taking effect now. Transmission is in, floors mostly complete. Malwood clutch pedal is in, but wiring needs to be relocated, Malwood reservoir needs to be mounted still. Coolant pump and radiator/fans for trans is mounted/mocked in place but needs finished up.
