Longhorn Side Board Kit / Cattle Rack

5 Attachment(s)
I recently purchased a 1 owner, 47,000 Original Mile 1971 C-30 Longhorn.
A member of the Family contacted me, and said they had some additional "parts" for the truck as well.
They brought me a complete side board kit, that was purchased when the truck was new.
It was manufactured by Mid-States, of Milton Iowa (Still in business).
Made specifically for the Longhorn Bed.
The man who owned this truck apparently used it occasionally to haul cattle.
Does anyone have any info on these, or perhaps pics of it installed...
Just curious...
Thanks!

Nice truck:metal:
Is the SPID still intact on the Glovebox?
There has been questions on the frame of the longhorn trucks lately.

Maybe someone can show more info on options.

Nice find! Original owner purchased the right truck for the job! These types of add on's were regional, most were in the Midwest area. Here is a Tiberlock body.

Flasco was another brand of stock rack made in Sioux Falls SD. Nice pickup.

Here's the SPID...
I also found the sheet folded up in the ashtray, with the spare key!

Very nice.
Good info for you to have.
I also like those original spare keys:metal:

I have seen a few in the past.
Mostly from my Grandpa's stuff.

Bossi Bodies built the side boards here. There are still a few sets around in barns, but nobody uses them anymore.

Nice truck! I'd really like to see some detailed pics of the factory D89 paint stripe on the sides.

Re: Longhorn Side Board Kit / Cattle Rack

My Dad had a Stock Rack new with his truck when he bought it. 1969. I still have it but the horses we hauled in it chewed up a couple of the boards, other wise still functional. It is 6 pieces, 1 front, 2 sides, 2 back pieces and a rear center lift gate. The sides were about 4' tall and all but the lift gate each had fold up extensions that made it about 6' tall. Yours looks a little different, but they all probably work same, the legs sit in the stake pockets and the front, sides and back panels all bolt together, on the 4 corners with bolts like yours, holding it in place. I hope this helps. I might have to make some repairs to the stock rack when I get done with the truck.

Hey Mike, I'd like to know the thickness/height of the upper and lower line of the pinstripe and the distance between them. It seems that the top line is generally about twice the thickness of the bottom line but I'd like to know their actual thicknesses.

I'd also like to see the front "spear" end of the stripe and where it starts in relation to the front edge of the side marker light and the distance between the bottom stripe and the top of the marker. Some of the factory stripes start farther forward than the front edge of the marker and others around the mid point. I'm attaching a pic of what I'm talking about. That particular stripe starts almost directly in line with the marker.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,
Here are a few pics....
The top stripe is twice as wide as the bottom...(Not quite 1/4")
Here is how the stripe begins and ends.....I'll measure how far back it starts as well....

The leading point is behind the front edge of the marker light 1/2"
The bottom edge of the stripe is 5 11/32" above the marker.
The spacing between is 3/8"
Hope this helps...

Re: Longhorn Side Board Kit / Cattle Rack

Much appreciated! My truck didn't come with that stripe but I plan on adding it. I know there are variations since these were applied by hand but these measurements will help quite a bit when planning out the location. Thanks again!

Nothing better than hauling a Longhorn in your Longhorn!

That is true and pretty clever. Although you could haul a Shorthorn in your Longhorn but never a Longhorn in your Shorthorn. I think Steffens out of Sioux City might have made the pickup stock racks too.
