Re: Wiring Question

We need much more information before anyone can make any decisions as to good or bad.
What sizes are the wires involved?
How long are they?
Is the battery in the stock location?
Where in the starter circuit is the fuseable link?
What size fuseable link?
Are you using a factory switch fuse block?
And I'm sure I've missed somethings.

Every detail will help. Photos will be beneficial too.
You are asking for information that if miscommunicated could result in your truck catching fire. Nobody here wants to see that or wants to feel responsible for contributing to something like that.

Re: Wiring Question

^^^what he said, picture shown is bogus for a 67-72 chevy unless you are severely upgrading for a monster stereo system or a whole lota lights and a winch

Sorry Guys I ll Get Some Pictures Later Today. Everythings 8 Gauge Wiring From American Autowire.

The First Red 8 Gauge Wire Goes From My Starter Solenoid
Main + Post To The Alternator Aith An AAW Fusible Link That Came In There Kit Between The Two.

Running Power From The Starter Solenoid To The AAW Fuse Block in The Cab. With Routing Along The Rad Support Its Probably About 7 Feet Away

Just Was Wondering If I Should Put a Circuit Breaker In Between The Starter and Fuse Block?

Im Just Trying To Cover All My Bases In Case Of a Shortt or I Gotta Jump Start The Truck So I Dont Ruin The Fuse Box

Re: Wiring Question

Eliminate the wire to and from the starter post and go direct. having it down there will cause resistance when it gets hot from the exhaust or engine block. All you need at the post is the batt cable. 8g wire will not handle a 200a load. 145a alt should have at least a 6g wire to the batt. (maybe even a 4) Going into the cab fuse block 8g may be a little overkill as it will not fit into the bulk head connector correctly

I Know The Wire Wont Handle 200 amp but Thought Id Put That There In Case Of a Voltage Spike. Jump Starting

I Think I ll Just Go From The Starter post Direct To The Fuse Box

The Fusible Link Should Hold

Re: Wiring Question

Here is a link to the Mad Electrical site. (There are several pages on alternators alone) They have lots of good information on how to make alternator upgrades. It may help you finish your project.
Good luck.

Look at Page 3 here to see how AAW does it.
