72 transfer case skid plate

I’ve got a 72 CST Blazer with an automatic and no skid plate, and a 72 K5 with a four speed and it has the tranny/transfer case skid plat. I’m wondering did they put skid plates with an automatic? It looks like the extra crossmember would hit the automatic shift linkage? Hope this makes sense

I don’t have an answer here other than to say the 465/205 combo makes a great skid plate on its own:lol: That combo is pretty tough to beat up bad.

Doesn't the extra crossmember go behind the t-case? Not sure how that would interfere with the trans linkage. Linkage terminates toward middle/front of trans. Most of the additional crossmembers I have seen supporting the skid do not utilize the sections that tie crossmember into upper frame as well.

I believe you are right about the extra crossmember being in the rear. I think that answers my question thank you

I have a ‘72 4 speed Jimmy without skidplates and a ‘72 automatic Jimmy that has skidplates. It does have the second crossmember and it is on the SPID.

As your skid is original I am curious if the second crossmember has the braces going to upper frame rail.

It is and it’s on the SPID. Only the front crossmember has the braces going to the top of the frame. We did a frame swap on the automatic truck and both the original and replacement frames had skid plate equipment and neither had braces to the frame on the rear crossmember.

Thank for replying. Helps to confirm my suspicion that the ones with the upper frame braces are added on.
