Routing 6 gauge charging wire to Alternator
 

Evening folks,

How did you guys route your red 6 gauge wire from the starter to the alternator? I am trying to keep everything hidden, yet practical, and am having a hard time just doing it.

Any suggestions and/or pics would be greatly appreciated.

I scoured the site for past posts but didn't find anything this specific.

My truck has headers. I went in from the front of the motor to the starter. There is a small bracket that retained the wire on the top frame rail. I may have re-positioned it a little forward, I am not 100% sure of that. Then from the starter to the alternator by running the wire behind the block. I have to admit it is tight between the block and the headers in this locale. Then it was ran on top the block in a plastic loom with the other wires. I was very happy with the results. I'll get you some pictures tomorrow. It is hidden pretty well and I don't consider it view any more than if I had gone the other way to the frame rail. I also recommend a side post battery. It cleans up the battery looks a lot in my opinion. It as has the cables going in the right direction with out much of a bend unlike the 90 degree that would be required with a top post.
Another option is to run the wire like the 2000's Silverados. They have the battery on one side and the alternator on the other. The cable is run under the cross-member below the radiator. This is a separate wire from the starter wire on the Silverado.

I didn't run the alternator output to the starter when I converted my alternator as I wanted to avoid the voltage sensing issues explained in this link from Mad Electrical. If you haven't visited their site I recommend it, as they have a lot of good technical information posted.

On all my LS swaps I come off the starter lug, around the front of engine using a few of oil pan bolts and rubber lined metal cable clamps to secure. I've never had any sensing issues running it that way.
I too like to hide wires.
