Electric Choke Wire?
Can I Use The Orange Wire From My American Autowire Harness?
The Thing Is I Wired It To One Of Those Interior Dome Light Modules.. Have a Spare Orange Wire. American Autowire Says Use The Wiper Feed But Wanna Avoid Tapping Into It If I Can.. Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Electric Choke Wire?
It must be on a circuit that goes off with the ign. switch. If it is not tied in with a circuit with a fuse you need to put an inline fuse in the wire. For best results it should be wired with an oil pressure switch. That way if you leave the ign. switch on without the engine running it will not open the choke.

I Cut The Blue Oil Wire Out Of The Way As I Am Running Dakota Digital Senders..
I Should Wire This To The Electric Choke? Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Electric Choke Wire?
I'm not sure what you are working on but NO. That wire sends the signal to the gauge or light. You need a wire that is hot only with the key on.

Re: Electric Choke Wire?
First question is are you running a HEI ignition?
If so, my GM HEI dist has a 2 wire harnesses on the lower driver's side of the dist cap. One connector has 2 wires. A red and a pink wire. The connector next to that one is the tach signal feed. One brown wire. On my truck the red wire supplies the voltage to the electric choke on my Edelbrock 1406. I also have the AAW complete wiring package. Been that way since I wired her 8 years ago and she hasn't burst into flames yet and the choke works as it should. The tech support guys at AAW are great. I nothing else, give them a call. All I have... RP |

"That way if you leave the ign. switch on without the engine running it will not open the choke."
Another way to look at this issue is when you don't need the choke you can turn on the ignition and wait a minute and the choke will be off. Like with a warm engine at altitude? However, I have never considered running the choke wire through a oil pressure switch. Good idea if it fits your needs. |
Re: Electric Choke Wire?
No need to tie into pressure switch. If key left on, ignition coil will also discharge battery. So, point is moot. No?
Easy method that looks original is to route from key-on terminal at fuse block; thru light blue, 16 awg, gxl wire with inline 3A fuse; out thru existing firewall grommet and to choke coil. Route wire adjacent to valve cover and install asphalt cloth jacket to make look factory. |
