West Coast Jr mirrors / pics?
 

Anyone have pics of West Coast Jr mirrors on their 1/2t truck? I’m thinking about running these for a little different look and improved visibility on my truck. I think the old ones with the reflectors/Chevron on the outside look cool- are those difficult to find? Are the original mirror sets pretty expensive in general?

I like them, too. I always called them West Coast Jrs, too. But I learned GM called the option RV Jrs. They only came painted from GM, but you can find Ford mirrors in stainless. A nice set won't be real cheap. I had a '71 C/30 tow truck the guy I bought it from had taken the West Coast Srs off and put K-mart mirrors on. Who needs good mirrors on a tow truck, right? Anyway. I found a set of Jr size aftermarket mirrors with the yellow chevrons... perfect! Sorry no pictures on this computer, other than one with the Kmart mirrors

I had the Jr's on my 68. They were originals. When I did the truck I removed them. I found that they created a blind spot on both sides. I nearly hit a girl on a bike that was completely covered, out of site. I have the sport mirrors and like them much better. I have a hoist and I don't think that they would fit between the posts so I might have made a good move without knowing. They are noisy as well. Have a good one eh!

Mine came with them from the factory. They are the only mirrors I’ve ever had that don’t vibrate. They do however have a blind spot as stated above. The field of view is much better than the smaller sport mirrors so I prefer them.

Thanks : ). Do they adjust closer/further toward/away from the vehicle (I’ve never had a set and never paid attention to them until now )

The arms swing back and forth and the mirrors themselves can be rotated on the arms so they have quite a bit of adjustment

I had a set for a Ford I was going to use, then sold the truck, then sold the mirrors. The nicer set I had were all stainless, and had "fomoco" script on them, but they were sold as "Rotunda" in the aftermarket. They were identical except for the script on the head. As someone mentioned, the stainless that were found on a lot of ford get pricey, but they are out there and were plentiful. We had a set similar to the white ones on a 67 on a truck dad had, as a matter of fact very similar truck (red with white top), but it was a base truck with no trim.

My first set was on my '65 SWB. I loved 'em so much I've added them to my '71 Suburban.

Here's a pic of mine. A lot of the rust came off using CLR, showing the original white paint.

Yeah, they leave a blind spot if you don't learn to look fore and aft of them. If you do that, then no blind spot. I think of a blind spot as a place you can't see in your field of vision or using mirrors, at all. I find that many modern vehicles, such as my '95 Suburban, can hide a vehicle or pedestrian behind the a-pillar. It's not wide enough that you expect it to hide anything, but every now and then I will come close to pulling out on an oncoming vehicle. I never had a problem with any west coast mirrors because it's obvious you have to put an effort into looking around them. I'm also a look twice driver because I don't want to hit a biker and say it's because "I didn't even see him". Well he was there, so that's no excuse. They have been there ever since there have been cars, so expect one

Yeah. I have them on my '68 Stepside. Original equipment. Listed on SPID. I love mine.
I think of them as Third World Radar. A cop can't sneak up on you from behind if you're watching your Six.
I added a big fish eye on the driver's side, and a smaller stick-on one on the passenger side, to flesh out the blind spots. Yes, you do have to keep the eyes moving for hidden things behind the mirrors. They are big. But that gives you superior resolution in veiwing to the rear.
They also create a lot of wind noise. As far as aerodynamic drag? Get real, It's a truck, you're probably hitting Terminal Velocity at 80 MPH anyway.

I got 2 sets with the truck and using the best parts from both mounted these using new SS hardware. Bottom picture is what the view looks like when you have a side mounted spare.

When I bought my '72 C20 it had junior West Coast mirrors on it, I use it to tow my enclosed car trailer and find visibility is much better with camper style mirrors . A pair of 4 inch stick on convex mirrors helps too.
