What I learned today.
2 Attachment(s)
Some are obvious but cut me some slack, I typically need it. :)
Jegs and Summing brand SS Braided fitting parts can't be interchanged. China SS hose clamps are garbage. (Barely had any torque on this one) China Brake switches are junk. And difficult to get to after everything is assembled. Beating on it with a screwdriver is the only way it functions. What did you LEARN? |
Re: What I learned today.
Harbor Freight tools are one time use or just junk. I bought a tail pipe expander years ago and barely tightened it to expand some pipe and the large turn screw snapped.
Bought most of all my new electrical parts from GMC Pauls, (supposed to be made here) have not had an issue yet. |
Re: What I learned today.
Oh, yeah, that stop light switch is a real sweetheart to change. Either that, or I'm getting old. Probably a combination thereof, tbh.

Re: What I learned today.
Yeah, I hate changing the brake light switch. I dread doing any under the dash work. I'm not much of a contortionist these days. It would sure suck to install a POS brake switch only to need to changing it out again since the part was junk.
It's pretty safe to assume anything made of metal from China will e inferior. I'd like to be able to say better things about parts made in China. It this offends them there is only one solution, stop cheaping out and raise your quality standards. It seems they are only concerned with making the part look like the part it's supposed to be, put it on a ship, and screw 'em/what can they do about it? Was this just one hose clamp that failed? Tried any others? I don't know about the Jegs and Summit "branded" brake hoses someone else makes. In what way are they not interchangeable? |
Re: What I learned today.
Many GM brake light switches are still available from GM.

Re: What I learned today.
Yeah, I bought a genuine GM tailgate cable from the Chevy dealer parts dept for my '92 K3500, Made in China
Many years ago, like in the '80s, I bought front wheel bearings from the Chevy dealer for my '71 K/20 and was surprised to see Made in Japan stamped into the parts. Nothing new I guess |
