best shock option for stock 1960 C10

I am replacing shocks and springs on my 60 and am finding there aren't a lot of options for shock absorbers for stock ride height. Rockauto only has one rear shock option (Gabriel 82086) but I was told that all 1/2 tons from 60-72 effectively use the same rear shock. If I look under 63-66 C10s indeed there are a bunch more shock options. Am I able to run shocks intended for 63-66 C10s on my 60 or is that asking for trouble? I think the front setup is different but I am not sure how different.

I just want to replace the old shocks without lowering the truck. If anyone has recommendations for other brands/places to shop please share.

In the Late 80's and early 90's I had a '61 and I had the same problem way back then too. I did use the later applications with no problem. Currently I am using Monroe OE Spectrum shocks from O'Reilly and they provide a smooth ride. My rear ones are actually for '67-'72 because I couldn't find them for a '66

Race Car Dynamics has Bilsteins for the 60-62's. POL and Speedway are two places that sell them.. I think they are about $100 each. 55-R068 and 55-R148 are the part numbers.

Thanks to you both. I will check out those Bilsteins. I have also heard people like Monroe and KYB. I’d like to get a matching set if possible. I am more concerned about front fitment as it seems like the rear is more compatible.

I'd check LMC out for stock shocks maybe.

I ended up ordering the basic Gabriel shocks front and rear from rockauto. I was told at least rear shocks from trucks up to 72 would fit but most I looked at were too short. The max extended range was just under 20" and the gabriels go to 25". The truck is sitting at over 20" on worn out springs now. I figure these will be fine for my basic needs but wish there were more basic options (not >$100/shock, not exclusively for lowering, etc) for the 60-61s.

The shocks that have been on the rear of my '61 forever are Monroe 3017 shocks but it doesn't look like they make those anymore. I'd recommend them if you could find 'em. They are supposed to fit a later model but I bought 3 NOS ones in the photo. I haven't put them on yet; I'm a little afraid they won't meet my expectations & I wanted to try air shocks. Does anyone know if air shocks are still being made for '60-'62?

If they do still make 'em, I doubt they'd call them "Pleasurizers" in this day and age.
