88-98 Bench Seat
 

So I have a bench seat out of an 89' truck. I bought an LMC original style new cover and OER foam kit. My question is have any of you done this? I can typically do a little of everything with some idea on how to attack it. The OG foam was formed around the metal frame. The new foam doesn't have cut outs or places for the metal frame to sit in. The instructions just say the foam sits on the frame. Thanks

A couple of years ago, I replaced the interior of my 1996 K1500. The seat was trashed and original to the truck. The seat on the 1996 trucks did not have the foam formed to the steel bench seat. When looking around for the foam bun and the cover, I found several sites that stated certain years had the foam bound to the steel seat. I don't know what years had the foam formed to the seats and what years it sat on top of it (except for 1996). I am not sure if the seats on your truck and mine are the same thickness. It could make a big difference on how the cover fits. I remember someone talking about removing the foam off the frame and then getting a foam bun for a seat like mine. Not much help, maybe someone else will have more information.

I recall a buddy of mine that does interior work saying the early trucks (88-92 maybe?) had the foam bonded to the frame & the fabric glued to the foam. I know he said they were a PITA to re-work.

Not sure when GM actually changed the assembly arrangement.
