Vent window will not open, any thoughts?
1984 C10 Suburban. The driver's side door vent window will not open. The latch moves well but I've tried pushing on the vent window, with a fare amount of force, and it will not open. The passenger side is fine. The burb sat for around 7 years before I got it, so I don't know when the last time it was opened.
Any ideas? I do not want to push on it and break something. |
Re: Vent window will not open, any thoughts?
Some Ideas...
The lower pin that it pivots on is rusted and froze (inside the door cavity). The upper pivot rivet is frozen too. Someone glued it shut because the lower pin is broken and the window would pop out on it's own. I can't think of anything else that would keep it from pivoting. |

Put a little lube on pivot points and I bet it will work again

Re: Vent window will not open, any thoughts?
2nd on lubing the pivots. Also, use a butter knife or plastic knife and lift the edges where the rubber meets the glass. You will find out quick if something is sticking the rubber to the glass.
Lube the passenger side as well. Avoid future problems. |
Re: Vent window will not open, any thoughts?
Thanks for the responses! I got it open this morning.
I made sure the glass wasn't stuck to the rubber seal. Last night I sprayed some lube on the upper hinge point and a good bit down in the seal at the lower pivot point. I let it sit overnight. This morning I was able to free it. |
