Frame Repair Questions

So I was underneath the truck today about to start working on the front bumper and replacing parts and I noticed something I haven't noticed before.
I know I should have seen this a long time ago but I didn't and wasn't the one that did the suspension work.
With that being said, I was very surprised to find that the frame was repaired on the passenger side front a long time ago.

Question are:

Do you think this fix is ok?

Do you think this is safe to drive?

Do you think I should take it to a body shop and have them look at it?

Do you think it's fixable?

What would you do if it was your truck?

Not the best looking repair I've seen..
But its obviously been holding for yrs..right?
If you feel uncomfortable with it, by all means have a body shop or competent welder look it over

Re: Frame Repair Questions

Might take it to a body shop that does frame repair/modification.

Have them inspect for:
Why was the repair made?
Is the repair good enough?
Is the frame set up properly after the repair?
Are there other spots on the frame that might need repair?

Square body frames on 4wd trucks were noted for cracking around the steering box. A repair not in that area implies either bad rust or some type of collision.

Run it. Frame repairs aren't the oh-were-all-gonna-die doom and gloom some people like to claim.

Not the prettiest thing, but they added a lot of material both in flat stock and welding. Looks strong from here, but I'm not the one driving it. If you feel inclined, I would say get it checked out by someone you feel is competent to assess it. I don't know if your suspension needs any work, but maybe you want to move that to the top of the list and open that area up. Then you could cut off that added material and get someone to do a good clean weld on the frame. And then fish plate that if you wanted to. the thing I don't like about it is that it's not welded all the way around the added pieces. That means that moisture can reside in the area that needed to be repaired in the first place.
