Mechanical Fuel Pump - disassembly?
1 Attachment(s)
How does one disassemble the mechanical fuel pump. The top part appears to be pressed onto the lower cast metal section?

that's a newer pump that can't be taken apart for repair, the crimp is permanent
the old repairable pumps had maybe 6 screws holding the halves together still available in the aftermarket, you can see 6 bolts around the flange |
Re: Mechanical Fuel Pump - disassembly?
You can't take that one apart to clean or rebuild it and put it back together and not have it leak at home. The rebuilders have special fixtures and tooling to do it.
About 41 years ago I took one apart about a mile short of the summit of the Continental divide on I 90 in Montana and cleaned the sand out of the check valve and made it to the summit where I could coast down the west side for a lot of miles until I made it to Whitehall where a young guy who was working at a gas station/shop was packing up the stuff he had in the shop for his 55 Chevy to take it home and store it because he was going in the Navy in the next few days sold me the pump he had for his 55 for 15.00. I had gotten my pump back together enough to pump gas but it leaked. I don't think that there is any way to get one to seal on your own. The one that Ogre showed can te taken apart and rebuilt and can be clocked by the owner if the inlet and outlets are in the wrong places. |
