72 C20 402 Alt Belt question
:bowtie: Greetings! Been some time now of owning my 1972 C20 402 truck but I keep experiencing alternator belt alignment difficulties. I switched over to using the internal regulated alternator with the ext by-pass press in kit. Would there be some sort of alternator discrepancies with belt alignment by using the later buigger alt's? Seems mine always sits towards the driver back to far and I tossed the belt the other day...Anybody had any experience or advice they can share on this?:bowtie:

how far back are we talking....????
should be able to washer the bracket out a little to get it lined up.. does every thing else line up???? what else you running...p.s. a/c etc.....do you have the correct pulleys??? |
:bowtie: Well, I seems back at least a full pulley length , as I f i were to have had a double groove alt pulley. I have washered the stem of the top orig 72 alt bracket at the cyl head but I still cant get it to line up on the radiator side of the bracket.
I am using all of the orig GM BB 402 pulleys that are correct from it from 1st issue.:bowtie: |
I apologize for my poor typing habits/spelling!:banghead:
|
sounds like the double alt. pulley would be the way to fly:D
|
OK, well thanx!:bowtie: I will continue to follow up here if I get any further assistance! Thanx Again!:bowtie:

Yes Sir! That's the set-up! Im looking at thimking maybe the later internally regulated Alternator's lower housing spacer may be longer than that of the original issue alternator. I think maybe if I shorten that lower mounting pointe's end to end and use washers to fill the void on the reverse side I may be able to get the alt to move forward. Currently this alt Im using wont allow the alt to be adjusted from the front side of the top alt bracket...:bowtie:

*Ebay is easyer :has paypal, ratings on seller, shipping rates, you can compare with other sellers,& basicly straight forward.
* AGE: I see some with $35K+ garges ,year 2000+ corvettes,& Harley-Davidsons( basicly $$$$). Some of us are younger have 1 or 2 realy cool trucks ,BILLS,& a wish list....meaning some have money today & then the wife or kids need it . $2K is not hard to get , just hard to keep. * "it Happens"- one time I was buying a bull ( had the $) 2 days before I was to make the transactoin my roof blew-off.Called the guy & the reply was " quit waisting my time........" . His loss I still got a Bull ,just 2 weeks later. Also, "ON this Board" I was in a deal to get the much needed GMC S.S. hub caps & the board crashed ... THat realy sucked!! * It is true , some can get excited on what they see ( whole trucks) because the $ is right and the product is good , but then you realize it is just out of reach (distance). There is a Longhorn F/S right now I wished was closer. I did buy a truck near Lousiana from a board meamber (long drive with a parts truck comeing home). * Then there is the big "M": spouse!!!You think it is great & they say yes & then chages their mind ........ * some are just plan ....... - There is no excuse....just reasons. I just wanted you (sellers) that you are the best ( helping us out with your knowledge & other stuff). :) & some of us don't pc as much as others(MIAs)!:) Hey I love yor 1972 SWB 4x4 2" Truck! |
