How I install carpet
 

I've mentioned this tip to a few who have posted questions, but thought I would make a thread.

Tools needed: ice pick, propane torch, old socket.

Process: 1)Take the carpet out of the box, pop the shapes back to match the floor of the vehicle, and lay in the sun for a few hours. 2) Put carpet into vehicle and locate it properly (in our 67-72's I generally use the center hump and the seat risers). 3)Once if fits right, it is time to make holes. 4) I take an ice pic and locate the center of the hole coming up thru the bottom. 5) Wearing gloves take an old socket with an extension and heat it with the propane torch. 6) Place the heated socket over the ice pick and melt the carpet away. This makes a really clean hole with no fibers to clog your bolt threads. I have even done some without using the dimmer switch trim piece.

EDIT: Safety - sharp objects, really hot objects, etc in use. Wear heavy leather gloves. Watch where you lay the socket. Similar to most TV tips I failed to mention the exceptions/problems- this does not melt the jute backing if you have to go thru that. I have not tried it on carpet with the mass backing.

Do you think this would still work for the carpet with mass backing? I believe it is just butyl tar type stuff.
