Where to get Control Arm Seals?
 

I need both the upper and lower control arm rubber seals for my 1971 C10 2WD just the rubber seals. From what I have seen is places like Rock Auto want to sell you the whole kit with the shaft and the metal cups that screw in to either side. Your help is greatly appreciated

Closest thing I found so far for the lower control arm bushings is this from Classic Parts but cups included:

but they want $15 bucks each so that's $60 plus dollars for four of them and it's on 3 Week Back Order

LMC claims to have just the rubber seals for the upper control arms but their listing states: 2 WHEEL DRIVE 3/4 TON 67-72

Just spend the $60. and buy them ,Think of it this way with all the cash you have falling out of your pockets from not buying $7.00 a gallon gas for your electric truck you'll be way ahead ! :lol:

I don't see an easy way out here. Moog kits with the cross shafts and bushings are just over $30 on RockAuto so it's the same price but you get the cross shaft as well.

I just replaced shafts and bushings, IMHO the way to go

thanks, what rubber friendly grease do you recommend to make these go on easier and prevent them from squeaking later?

The bushing material is a rubber like (not polly) so I just use regular grease I lube all my zerk fitting stuff with that is not poly.

Green grease would also be fine is you are concerned about Petro based grease. Sold at most auto part stores. I use green grease on my poly suspension stuff on other cars

The rubber pieces in the 63-72 control arm shafts are not bushings. They are just for keeping dust and dirt out of the threads. The steel caps that screw on to the shaft is doing the "bushing" activity. Use plenty of the grease that you would use on your steering joints.
The swuarebody control arm shafts do use a rubber bushing, but the shaft is different than the older ones to account for the rubber bushing.

wow, perfect, great find thank you so much, and yeah their website is jacked, anyway I emailed their customer support and am working with Angie to straighten things out

well they claim this indeed is the lower control arm seal and it's just a new look/design so we shall see

Just to be clear, what I am seeing in your photos are not bushings. They are dust sheilds/seals for the bushing and cross shaft. The actual bushing is the large metal piece that looks like a nut on both ends of the cross shaft.

No worries. Just didn’t want you to have some misplaced expectations if your bushing have slack in them.

Thats the way I am seeing it too. I thought the bushing was the metal threaded peice on each end making those more of a seal for the bushing to hold in grease and keep out everything else. I get it why everyone calls them bushings as thats what the retailers calls them.

BINGO, it's like that whole give me a starter relay instead of a starter solenoid thingie when talking to an AutoZoner! kapish?

Oh wow! in that case I would highly recommend you give them zirc fittings a shot of grease pronto just to be sure there is still some in them cups, until you get around to putting the rubbers back on, assuming you are driving that rig around still

I am driving it yes. I just greased them Sunday. I got the truck just over three years ago and have been drivin it for just over two years now. Thanks to everyone on here I have learned a lot about my truck in a hurry. I was a grease monkey for 30yrs so I knew how to do the work but what goes where correctly and all the cool tips tricks and hints along with how toos really made workin on my truck easier and enjoyable. I gotta take it to get aligned and according to how that goes will decide if I change them now or later. Thanks again
