70-72 12-Bolt Coil Rear End Housing
5 Attachment(s)
This is a rear end housing from a 1970 2WD coil spring truck and has been cleaned and repainted. All of the bearings and seals have been replaced with Timken brand (made in USA). The axles, carrier and gear set are not included. This is just a housing with bearings and seals installed. A set of stainless brake lines and a pinion bearing spacer kit are included.
This rear end was in my 1968 C10 when I bought it about two years ago. A previous owner swapped this 1970 housing in at some point. The 70-72 rear ends are wider than 69 and earlier to match the increased width of the front end with disc brakes. I rebuilt this rear end and installed new gears and axles and then put a few hundred miles on it. The Yukon gear set I installed ended up being noisier than I'd like, so I decided if I was going to replace the gears that I'd go ahead and use a 1967 rear end that was the original width used in my truck. The rear cover has some pitting on the inside. This cover was not originally from this rear end. There is no rust inside the rear end itself. Here are the parts currently installed in the housing: Timken 8835S Wheel Bearing Seals $3.60 ea Timken 6408 Wheel Bearings $22.19 ea Timken M88048 Pinion Bearing, Outer $15.29 Timken M88010 Pinion Bearing Race, Outer $7.64 Timken 8460N Pinion Seal $11.09 Timken HM89410 Pinion Bearing Race, Inner $10.06 Timken HM89449 Pinion Bearing, Inner $18.21 Yukon Gear SK CSGM12T Crush Sleeve Eliminator Kit, $29.17 LubeLocker LUB-LLR-G012 Reusable Gasket $21.95 Inline Tube Stainless Brake Lines, $35 Parts total $201.19 $600 picked up locally |

Re: 70-72 12-Bolt Coil Rear End Housing
Do you know if this is a Dana diff? Do you know what version it is? The C20 big block trucks came with a Dana 60 rear axle, though this looks like a smaller version. Thanks

Re: 70-72 12-Bolt Coil Rear End Housing
This is not a Dana. It's a GM 1/2-ton 12-bolt found in C/10 trucks with coil spring rear suspension. This is the slightly wider version found in 70-72 trucks.
