Parking brake cables
 

Ok so I'm trying to figure out the parking brakes for my truck, I found the cable that connects to the pedal, but the rear brakes are 13" brakes from a late 90s GMC k2500 full floating 14 bolt rear so idk if the 71 parking brake cables will work or if I need the parking brake cables from the later model truck, from there my next question would be do I need the intermediate cable that matched the rear cables or can I use the one for the 71? If anyone can help it'd be much appreciated cause that's all I need other than a proportioning valve to finish the brake system on my 3/4 ton frame so I can move the body over.

Try both cables that you already have and see if one of them will work , There's nothing off the shelf that's made to solve your problem , You may need to fabricate one yourself . The joys of building a franken truck . The intermediate cable would probably be the easiest part to join the old and newer system together . :chevy:

I put a Ford 8.8 in my truck and used the original front cable. Dorman makes a universal cable that worked great to connect the 2 rear axle cables to the front cable, similar to how the factory had it. The universal cable was $10 and had a clamp to stop the cable from slipping. You cut, put on the ball, then add the clamp. The cable was a fair amount smaller than the original, but it works great.

Thanks, I'll look into the dorman cable and I'll try the 71 cables I have to see if they'll work on the 13" drums

you have a mismatched parts no one can answer.
Instead use the cables you have to determine their current length .
and questimate your desired new length.
Then you know, you need a cable approximately xxx Inches long.

I changed my rear drum brakes to disc. I used stock front and intermediate cables, and had custom made to fit my components rear cables. There are several companies that make custom cables.
