66 Fleetside Bed Strip Bolts- Breaking Off
In the process of assembling my 66 Fleetside bed and we realized we needed to move a few of the boards to have better spacing between them and the bed strips. In the process of loosening the bed strip bolts the bolts kept breaking. These were new polished stainless steel bolts.
Has anyone had this happen? We are thinking maybe they were not intended to be loosened after being put on. What do you all suggest as a replacement for them? |
Re: 66 Fleetside Bed Strip Bolts- Breaking Off
Since they're stainless steel bolts, you need to use anti-seize on the threads.
If anti-seize is not used on the threads, the threads will gall up while trying to take the nut off and then snap off. Could also be some defective bolts, but if you liked the look of the polished stainless, I'd just buy a couple bolts to replace the broken ones and use lots of anti-seize |

Thank you. I am going to try that as soon as I get the replacement bolts
