Is it to hold the "seatback" straight up while driving ..OR,,, to hold the seat in the leaning forward position to easily get behind it..I have one on both ends of the seat..

Catches the seat back from flying fwd during a panic stop. :smoke:

That makes good sense . and not a bad Idea to use them too. They are there to either use them or not,,

Once you slam on the brakes and the seatback will go forward slightly, but your seatbelt will lock, and keep you from going into the windshield. The catch will also swing forward and “catch” the teeth on the hinge. So that will keep the seatback, and “you”, from then slamming forward.
GOPAPA your seat is missing the hinge garnishes. Those would be hidden under the garnish, and you wouldn’t be able to actually manually move them. They are to hang & swing freely.

I am missing the hinge garnish ..not sure if I want them at this time although that would dress it up nicely alright.. as long as they hang & swing freely ,
