Re: ISO Blazer Jimmy spare tire carrier carriage bolt
Cool thanks, Do you happen to have a bolt I can buy or borrow?

Re: ISO Blazer Jimmy spare tire carrier carriage bolt
You can borrow the one in the picture, I'm pretty sure that's mine, lol

Lol, you can borrow the bolt.

Re: ISO Blazer Jimmy spare tire carrier carriage bolt
If you are going to have them made, I would also suggest making the square part that slides in the slot longer. It barely catches and spins a lot. The 73 bolt square is a lot longer, I have one of those also I can grab a picture of.

Re: ISO Blazer Jimmy spare tire carrier carriage bolt
I believe the nut is unique (GM part number 03682846) I have a few bolt/nut sets I made up using a nos nut as a pattern. They are identical to the original except course thread. $48 shipped with tracking lower States. Pm me with cell and I'll text pics. (not sure how to post pics here). Also had a few nuts made with fine threads for someone lucky enough to have an original bolt.

They appear to be for 60-69 step side, side mount and 53-59 pickup That's the only place I found them in the parts catalog.

Re: ISO Blazer Jimmy spare tire carrier carriage bolt
GM’s 69-72 bolt was essentially standard head and square dimensions for a 7/16 carriage bolt. It did fit terribly loose in the slot as 1rippen6 says. The 1/2” carriage bolt dimensions fit great, but a 1/2” carriage bolt would require using an incorrect nut. A custom bolt with a 1/2” head but 7/16-20 fine thread would be the best of both worlds. When I had my reproductions forged, I followed the 7/16” carriage bolt standards (like GM) in part to be able to use existing forge tooling. The cost to create new forging dies would have been prohibitively expensive.

Re: ISO Blazer Jimmy spare tire carrier carriage bolt
I tried to find a bolt manufacturer in Canada to make the 7/16 fine thread carriage bolts but no luck. I found a supplier of 7/16 x 7" course thread carriage bolts and had a machine shop replicate the 03682846 nuts but with course threads to have a affordable bolt/nut setup. The nuts are like a lug nut with an extension on it (wish I could post pics). Apparently I was misinformed about all the applications.

The extension nut 3682846 was correct for the optional inside bed mount like what was on pickups (p/n circled in red, and pic of carrier below).
An ordinary 358501 lug nut was used on the standard Blazer behind-the-seat spare tire brackets. (p/n circled in blue). |

Bolt 3991023 is almost too small for the in bed spare tire mount. It barely catches the edges of the bolt slot in the mount.
I found that bolt 326928 fits the bolt slot in the mount perfectly but it is an inch longer. If bolt 326928 is too long to securely fasten the 3682846 lug nut on my tire I may just get a large coarse thread carriage bolt and turn it down / cut threads in it to fit my truck. I really hate to cut up a NOS bolt. Feel free to PM me if you want any measurements |
