1991 R30 C/C Spring perch issue.

I have a 91 R30 Cab and Chassis flatbed that a landscape company used to pull sod.

It has a 5.7, sm465. And C/C 14 bolt.

I plan on making a off highway tow pig out of it to grab other chevy trucks with a few times a year. I will run the TBI for a bit before I bolt a LM7 to the sm465.

I have a issue bleeding the brakes on the narrow rear in that there is no good way to bleed them without removing the spring pack. Seriously I have less then a inch between spring pack and the bleeder.

So I picked up a complete standard width 14 bolt.

Plan was to just pull the leaf spring bushing bolts and slide out the narrow and slide in the standard width leaf springs and all. The standard had 9 leafs while the narrow had 11. But I figured 9 would be enough to pull what I have planned.

After a quick measurment he C/C frame is actually Narrower. So that means the leaf springs will fall on the outside of the "Fat pads" on the standard width 14 bolt.

Now there are no locating holes on these fat pads. So can a hole be added (seems like a factory thing) or should I cut all the perches grind that housing down and have new (heavy) perches?

you will need to cut off the old ones and install new ones. the 1tons have different spring hangers to move the springs in.
