Starter Question
 

My 70's starter shorted out today. I have a ProForm High Torque mini starter (#66256) on the shelf. I know it worked with an automatic truck, but was wondering if it will work on the manual 3 speed that is in my current truck. Hate to shell out $$ for a new one if this will work. Besides, getting the thing out with those headers challenged my vocabulary.

I don't have an answer as to whether the other starter will fit, but if you were only cussin' and not throwing tools, it wasn't too bad a job. :lol:

in looking at the "check the fit" for that Proform...says it fits a 70 C10 30 v8 if thats what you have

It looks like it will work. I am going to try it once my eye heals up. Crap fell in it yesterday from my safety glasses. Scratched the eye up pretty good.

Dang, Bill, I hope your eye gets better quickly.

On the starter that died, is it bellhousing mounted or block mounted? If block mounted, you'll most likely be ok. If bellhousing, check your block to see if it has the holes for the block mount. Hopefully you won't need to do a whole bunch of shimming if it's a block mount

Thanks Christian. It does have the mount holes in the block. Now it is just see how/if the gear meshes once installed. In theory it all looks and sounds like it should work. Was just checking to see if anyone else had ever done it.

There's two block mount bolt patterns. One is straight across and the other is staggered. It's easy to see the difference.

My 63 used the bellhousing mount, so I ended up having the starter rebuilt at a local shop. I don't think my block has the block mounts. If it does, I don't remember it :lol:
