Rally wheel fitting problem

Hello, I'm hoping I can get some help. Well to start on my 71 C10 I tubbed the rear wells and am leaving the stock rear end as is so after figuring out what back space I needed for a 12 inch rim I went to Discount Tire in August and ordered two rear wheels, 15" x 12" from US Wheel. # months later they arrive on Wednesday. I have a 2 wheel drive with rear drum brakes. I ordered them with a 7 3/4" backspace. I went to test fit them this morning and they won't fit over the drum brake. The wheels taper in , in the middle. Well I went to Discount tire and they call Us wheel and basically i'm out $600.00 . They will not take them back? These are there Rally 54 Chevy truck wheels?
I know there are other members out there running the 15" Rally wheels , with the 29/15.5/15 tires, so what went wrong? Is there another source that people have used that didn't have the problem. I believe my rear drums are the 11" ones . Any help would be greatly appreciated. Totally bummed.
Thankyou, Dan

Re: Rally wheel fitting problem

I bought new rallys from Wheelsmith to replace my Wheel Vintique rallys. Wheelsmith will build them to your specs and they hold them to much tighter tolerences than other mfrs for lateral and radial runout. http://thewheelsmith.net

I fit 15x14 widened Ralleys on a 68 truck 12bolt w/stock rear drums w/o issue 30yrs ago.

Deep back space wheels can be/are an issue w/the HD drum package on the Squarebody trucks. I don't recall the 67-72's having the HD drum brake option but I know they'll swap over from a Square. Is it possible something was changed?

Thanks for replying. I have a 71 and my rear drums are 11" . So the OD of the drums is 11 3/8 " . Maybe another brand of rallye wheel is built different ? The US wheel doesn't and they offer no help as they got their money.
I need a 12" wide with 7 3/4 bs

Post a pic of the backside of the rims.

Mine were 14" wide 9 3/4bs. I think I had them built @ Ralley America (?). I'd offer to take some measurements, but I sold the wheels/tires off before Y2k.

Were the wheels custom made to order? That would explain why there's no refund.

Maybe a dumb question, but do they fit OK with the drums removed?

Also, I'd lay a wheel on the floor face down, and then drop the drum in the back to see where it interferes. Maybe a smaller diameter non-finned drum would work, if they are even available.

Honestly, I don't know how to post pictures. I'm terrible on a computer.
The wheels taper down from the lip and the center section is to small and won't fit over the drum. I will measure them a bit later .

Mike, I did order them through Discount Tire and asked for a 7 3/4 bs. US Wheel advertises up to 9" bs so I never thought it would be a problem ?
The rims hit the OD of the drums so not much can be done to them since they fir the backing plates.

I need to make correction. I remeasured my drums and the OD is 13 3/8 "
I guess I have larger rear drums than standard ?
I didn't know there were different sizes ?
To fit i will have to go smaller drum brakes ?
I never thought this was going to be an issue ?

Re: Rally wheel fitting problem

Well still a no go on wheels. I contacted Wheelsmith in Ca and they didn't have a solution. I was told that the older Rally wheels had a larger center section.
The new ones now are like 12 5/8 ID. They looked but didn't have any left in my 15x12 size.
I was told some guys that had my issue would have a machinist cut the drums down and remove the fins ? I just don't know.
I have been looking at rear disc brake kits but having a hard time finding them with a total OD of under 12 1/2 "

I really like the look of the rally's on these trucks. I looked at 17" but none come in 12" wide ?
Hoping for some member help ?
Thank you
