TH350 won’t “lock” into Park

I need some help with the adjustment I need to make so shift linkage will stay in park. Normally, once in park, you have to pull back towards you and then down to shift. On mine now, it will go into park, but it doesn’t “lock” there. You can just pull down to place it into gear. What can be adjusted to bring it back where the pull towards you is required to place into gear? 350 with TH350 non-tilt

Rack the shifter into park. Block the wheels. Loosen the adjustment nut. climb underneath and make sure it is all the way into at the trans. Make sure the column is all the way in and tighten the nut. That should be it

If that doesn't solve the problem have someone operate the shifter while you watch the detent mechanism at the bottom of the column.
Mine had a bent tab on the detent that caused that problem for me. Unfortunately when I bent it back in to position it broke off and I had to weld it back on.

Good luck.

Before you start changing adjustments and stuff spray some PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, or something similar into the top of the steering column, where the shift lever goes in. Don't be afraid to stick the nozzle in above and below the lever and give it a good dousing. After you spray it pull the shift lever up toward you and push it back down toward the dash. It should move up and down a couple of inches. Do this 4 or 5 times. This will help free up any sticking in the shift lever tube. The reason the shift lever moves up and down is because it should be pulled back towards you to shift it into and out of the park position.

It wouldn't hurt to spray the bottom end too, where the shifter arm comes out.

I think I might have found the problem. It looks like the detent for "park" is significantly worn down. Take a look below. I don't have another to compare it to.

Here's a thread by a member with a similar problem and his remedy.
