Scarcity of 60-66 4x4 Suburbans/Carryalls?
Hey fellas. Anyone have production numbers on the K Suburbans? I’m tenaciously searching for a decent driver and was curious what kind of task I’ve set myself.

It's roughly 500/year for 60-66 Chevrolets. Truly rare. Probably one tenth of that for GMCs.

Re: Scarcity of 60-66 4x4 Suburbans/Carryalls?
Thanks, fellas. I appreciate the data. I do understand the scarcity, but when you're in love... worth the hunt. I went over to early vehicles entirely about 4 years ago and it's made me happy. Truly.
Now... to get the '63 Olds sold to raise capital to make a move when the right truck comes along. |

Re: Scarcity of 60-66 4x4 Suburbans/Carryalls?
That's great. I've found quite a few 2wd Suburbans that were used as rural school busses, but that's the first 4x4. Amazing shape for a municipal vehicle. Black fenders from the factory??

Thanks!
Still has drums in the front? Doubtful those wheels would fit around a disc caliper...but they still look great. |
Re: Scarcity of 60-66 4x4 Suburbans/Carryalls?
60-66, have you got some more pics of this we can see? Incredible find and love the wheels/caps/tires. I can't believe I missed seeing it when you first posted it!

Re: Scarcity of 60-66 4x4 Suburbans/Carryalls?
That is a very cool (and rare!) old suburban, thanks for sharing the pictures.
I agree completely about the effectiveness of well set up drums on these trucks. Mine is used for hard work and play, and the drums stop it just fine. Too many survivors are butchered by those that think they “have to” have discs. I appreciate the care you have taken in preserving yours, keep the pictures coming! |

and I'm a big fan of those 17" steelies on these 60-66 K10 Subs. As a fellow 66 K10 Suburban owner I sure appreciate this yellow one. |
Re: Scarcity of 60-66 4x4 Suburbans/Carryalls?
Thanks 60-66, Got to love original paint, especially in that condition. Incredible, and the hubcaps really make it. Are the front fenders factory black? Any pics of the interior?
I know I'm hijacking the OP's (2023) thread. Hopefully this is in the "most original" thread (I don't recall seeing it in there). I'm a drum brake fan too - they work fine and I never feel like I'm lacking braking in my truck which I drive daily. |

Some interior shots. I thought the gun rack was ironic being a School Bus. Has all three seats even tho it does not have the rear sliding window. Assume the third seat was added by the dealer. Also a picture with the original fenders and the original 16 inch wheels it came with

Re: Scarcity of 60-66 4x4 Suburbans/Carryalls?
Just finished checking out the February issue of Hemmings. In the Monterey auction results there’s a picture of a 65 K10 Suburban that sold for $112,000 !!!
While it looked to be in perfect condition, in two tone light blue, with hubcaps and a PTO winch, is that what they are going for these days? Thankfully it had not been subjected to the restomod treatment that so many of them seem to suffer from. On the one hand I’m happy that people value and appreciate such a truck, but it’s sad that it will probably never see much road time, and certainly not the off road miles that it was built for and still very much capable of. Plus, it’s one less classic that will never be affordable to a mere mortal enthusiast…oh well. |
