Abandon 1966 E-brake cabling??
In a 1966 C10 panel (which is the same as a C10 shortbed), I'm finishing installation of a 454 with Hooker Headers and all seems good until I look at the e-brake cable routing. It runs directly where the exhaust pipe (post collector) needs to go.
Short of abandoning the e-brake system or having it rub across the pipe (neither is acceptable), what have y'all done to make this work? Thx |
Re: Abandon 1966 E-brake cabling??
Don't know if it will help, but the cables on my '66 were all shot so I converted it to the earlier style which uses the bolt in cross brace.

Went a different route. Similar to the lokar emergency brake cables and connector cable, but less expensive. Can't remember the brand or components, but moved all the cables off to the side and mounted the Y inside the frame rail.

I made a system like Adam did, used lokar parts, didn’t know anyone else made stuff like that, lokar is about $100 for the cable system, I was able to use the stock ebrake mechanism in the cab, 65 c-10…just attached it to the lokar termination point

Re: Abandon 1966 E-brake cabling??
I can honestly say, I’m not sure, I have a t-56 transmission and just leave it in gear. I also have Wilwood discs on the rear and that would be different than a drum setup as well. I have used it occasionally, but never on any large incline.
I think the original factory setup gives you a leverage advantage at the crossmember where all the cables come together, whereas with just the cab mechanism might be lower in overall leverage coefficient….. |
Re: Abandon 1966 E-brake cabling??
Rather watching this topic, I moved my e-brake on my 64 to a foot-type on the kick panel because of mounting a S10 tilt column, I'll need to reroute the cables also due to replacing the tranny crossmember for the TH350.
