NV4500 shifter knub slop

I feel like I'm jumping into this swap a bit too fast, but I also feel like I need to start somewhere. There's a guy within a couple hours of me selling NV4500's. They are all used, and I don't think they have a warranty, and the two I saw in person looked rough.

I made a vary quick video but I don't know if it even shows enough detail to show anything "wrong".

The slop in the shifter knob seemed a lot, but then again these trans were not known for their "modern precise feel"; from what I read they are marginally more modern feeling than an SM465.

He said he had a few other trans available at another location that we could go check out.

Is there anything I should be testing or looking at on an NV4500?

I know little to nothing about NV4500's but I do know these folks have been helpful to me in the past about other transmissions. You might try contacting them.

The shifter tops are in rubber like deal and also the tops are a plastic composite[ from the best of my recollection so if I'm wrong dont fry me] It has been years since I did a nv4500 truck but I did build a ton of them back in the day. I wished I still had one but I sold almost all of my parts from that body style now they are really going up. Jim

What I meant to say was until I distracted myself, is look at the tops good I had several that were in front crashes that would mess the top up and you had to watch for it on those. Jim

If it is just the knob itself it may be the wrong knob and the threads don't match the shift lever. If the lever is loose in the tower it could be a couple of different things. There are two nylon pivot bearings that fit over the pins on the sides of the shifter stub, down inside the tower. They may be worn or missing. That would make the lever feel pretty sloppy. I guess it could also be other worn internal parts. It's really hard to say without being there to see what the symptoms are first hand.....

Here is the thread on my installation:

Leon, the lever is loose in the tower.

Apparently the video link I posted expired. Here it is again.

The video doesn't start for me. Down at the bottom it says "waiting for simage4.pubmatic.com". and doesn't go any farther. Maybe I would need to be logged into the site to view it.

That one worked. I bet the nylon pivot bushings are bad in it. If that is the problem they would be easy to change/replace. I explain how to remove the shifter in post #19 of the link I posted above.
