Brake drum removal
1 Attachment(s)
I have a problem in that the front brakes need adjusted as even once bled I can still turn the wheel by hand. Main issue I have is the spacers are holding the drums on but I cant get them loosened off due to the wheel spinning when I try and loosen them?? I'm stuck lol

Re: Brake drum removal
You could drill 2 holes in a piece of long flat metal to act as a lever.
Bolt it to 2 of the studs the spindle then swap them around till you get them all broke loose. Or if you have a hardware store close that carry's some Unistrut like the link below it might work also. link: https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Unist...99077813&psc=1 |
Re: Brake drum removal
Wood 2x2 between the studs contacting ground.

Any more ideas to get these spacers off? Ive tried heat and leverage and theyre not budging. Ordered an impact driver so just hoping that does the trick if no other ideas

Re: Brake drum removal
Spray them with Kroil, pbblaster or your Favorite rust-buster.
Or a 50/50 Mixture of acetone and Transmission fluid. (By itself, transmission fluid isn’t strong enough to remove rust. However, when mixed in a 50/50 solution of acetone, it becomes a very powerful rust remover. Acetone is the secret ingredient most people aren’t aware of. If you are dealing with rust on your car, and have some used transmission fluid in your garage.) Maybe the impact will bust them after you soak them with one of the aboved mentioned. |

Re: Brake drum removal
Someone probably used loctite on them. You may need heat the lug bolts up before you use the long breaker bar or ratchet

Re: Brake drum removal
I know this is a long shot but did you try turning them the wrong way? Maybe someone installed some Mopar studs and they are left hand threads. It's a sure fire way to stop wheel thieves.
That being said I agree with Palf70Step about Loctite being a real possibility. |
