Vette 2-1/2" rams horn treatments
I just got my pair of Corvette LH 2-1/2" rams horns from the FedEx truck. These have the alt bolt holes on the end. I plan to cut them off and shape them more like our std manifolds. I am also thinking of ceramic coating them. Has anybody smoothed out the natural cast finish before coating? or removed the part numbers or just smooth out the mold parting seam. Any pictures?

Try nu2-72, I think he has done this with his rams horns.

id like to know how to clean up ramhorns and headers and such and what to put on them... because sometimes the ugliest thing in your engine is the headers or ram horns because the finish is half gone...

RAMHORNS
If you're planning on running these on a truck with frame mounts in stock location I hope you have a good muffler shop. Even at that you might still have to change your starter. I used a later model Chevy truck starter. 88 up I think.

I've smoothed out the parting lines on my set of rams horns. I just used a Dremel Rotary Tool with (I think) the grinding roll. Then smoothed it out a little bit with some of the fine sandpaper rolls. It wasn't hard. I don't know about any of the other questions, though. Also, I don't have any pics since they're in GA right now. You might want to post a question to gearhead on the inliners board. Here is a link to an engine painting post over there, where he mentions grinding smooth his engine block to paint it. http://www.inliners.org./ubb/Forum1/HTML/001622.html
Hope this helps. John |
I have done my block and my manifolds. Bandsaw close, grind closer and then i hand filed to keep the shape blended. After that use a Dremel or Right angle die grinder with 3M pads.
There are some pics on my thread "Why would I want to Vortec" I will link it. |

Sorry that is page two. Here; http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...5&pagenumber=1 I have also been using "manifold dressing" from Mid Amarica Corvettes for years with great success. When we can post pics again I will show you a set I did years ago. |
I bought a pair of these for a 4X4. I had them Hi Temp powder coated. It was cheaper than I thought it would be $100 for them and a load of brackets, valve covers, tow hooks towing hitch etc. I had to sandblast the stuff first.

While you're at it, you should port match the port openings to a felpro 1404 (I think ) exhaust gasket, which is easily done with a die grinder and carbide bit. I spoke with Randy Brzyzinsky of Brzyzinsky racing and he mentioned that if that is done, there is no restriction on your exhaust port. There is no need to port the inside of the manifold, just the port openings according to him. They also sell a mandrel bent 2 into 1 exhaust system which makes much more HP than duals. I bought it but have not yet installed it.
