shock problem

So I ordered a new set of shocks for my 66. The front ones fit fine but the rear ones have a bigger hole where the bolt goes through them. I dont want to drill out my bracket. Is there a piece I could get to put in the hole to fit my original bolt or does someone have an idea?

With all due respect, this often happens when mail ordering. No way to compare the new part to the old before making the purchase.. This is why I never recommend mail ordering as a first source. My recommendation?? The shocks you ordered are wrong. Something as simple as replacing shock absorbers shouldn't require making modifications to the vehicle. Return them for a refund.. Take one of the old shocks to your local parts supply.. Tell 'em what you have and what you want. Compare the two before shelling out the money...

I definitely wouldn't modify the brackets if there was a quick/easy solution.

As @RustyPile mentioned, I would be verifying the parts you received as being correct as my first step.

That being said, depending on the OD of the bolt & the ID of the eye 'sleeve' on the new shock, you might be able to source a spacer/shim to allow using the bolt you have.

Re: shock problem

100 years ago when I was a young man, when J C Penney had auto centers, I installed a million shocks. (A little exaggeration). Some of the shocks came with a shock mounting kit because the original lower stud was a different size. Go to Jegs and search (lower shock mount kit). They have a lot of different sizes. Of course after you make sure you have the right shocks.
