Afternoon Guys I put my lower and upperb control arms on my Truck today got everything installed bushings, spring upper and lower ball joint I put my spindle down on my lower ball joint noticed it wabled a little brabed it was loose so I remembered reading a post on this site about back in the Day some shops would weld them in so I don't have any extra money or time to talk it apart again so I welded it in tacked I guess it's not pretty but I think I can get by with it for now does anyone no if this was a common practice at some shops Thanks Saddletramp tramp NEVER GIVE UP

I THINK that '71 up lower ball joints are slightly larger with a spline on them. When I upgraded to disc brakes the new lower ball joints were too big to fit into the lower control arm. But a micrometer and a bastard file brought them into submission. Maybe you got '67-'70 lower ball joints? Kind of a moot point, now. If the balls move freely in the socket after all those welds, you could be good to go for another 50 years.

Thanks for the response yes I kind of over did it with the tack welds today I went back to rockauto to check and see if I got ball joints for another year truck the ones I've got are for a 72 gmc /chevy Moog part#K6117T so these are original control arms on my Truck so I'm thinking the sockets they sit in are probably alittle worn out passenger side fit,s good so for now I'll run it down the road if it doesn't hold up I'll be looking for a lower control arm Thanks again for response. Morning I thought about the moog ball joint I installed last week and had to tack it in I decided I couldn't live with it so I got another set from Napa I installed it this morning fit so much better the moog on the right side fit good maybe the ball joint hole is alittle worn the Napa ball joint is tight so I'm running with it .Saddletramp NEVER GIVE UP

Good deal! Something that happens is the wrong part gets put in a box. I worked at a parts store and it was pretty common. We'd write, "Boxed wrong" and send it back to the warehouse. It took three tries to get the correct passenger's right rear brake adjuster screw when I did the brakes a few years ago.
