Who has their Warranty Card & Protecto Plate

Just reading a members post about finding a thought to be lost Title in a truck made me think how many of you have the Warranty Card and Protector Plate for your truck. Pictured is mine. Mine was delivered in July 1972 so probably a late build.

Re: Who has their Warranty Card & Protecto Plate
I don’t have any pictures for y’all, but I do have the “Protecto-Plate” and “Maintenance Plan” Brochure. As a bonus when I bought the truck, I received a large plastic envelope with ALL the maintenance records, any part that was every bought/installed and a dated timeline as to where it lived it’s life. Right down to the spark plugs and wires, oil changes, and taillight bulbs.

I have the original sales contract and Protecto Plate with my name as original purchaser. I also have the original the owner's manual, all service records and a log of virtually every gallon of gas used. I don't recall ever finding a build sheet.

The only real thing I can think of that I don’t have would be my protecto plate. I’ve looked behind gas tank etc. no luck sadly

I sold the truck a few years ago, but it had quite a set of original documents with it, the guy even kept the “key plugs” in a little pouch.

Re: Who has their Warranty Card & Protecto Plate
I have my Warranty Card and Protecto Plate along with a few other original items. One of which is the GM In Transit Card. It's an old computer punch card with info about my truck. I searched the forum and I can't find mention of another one. I wonder how common they are, how they were used and why my truck's original owner ended up with it.

Was that a 68 Golden Anniversary thing? |
Re: Who has their Warranty Card & Protecto Plate
I've got what's left of Zooey (my C/10's) warranty card and the Protecto Plate. It would be nice if somebody could reproduce the 1970 Chevrolet truck warranty card because, mine was barely readable and I think most of it disintegrated but the Protecto Plate is still around.

Here are mine. Truly local truck as the dealership was located about five miles from my house. Photo of the truck in front of the building that is now the transportation department for the local public school.

I have this for my 1967 GMC K20. It was essentially a junkyard truck, but I was lucky enough to find it under the the floor mat.
I am a bit puzzled as to why my protecto plate looks different from the rest of yours, mine is plastic and not reversed. Truck was built in Oshawa Canada. Canada only? 1967 only? |

The original owner of my 85 was anal retentive he kept everything I even have all the recall notices and the envelopes they came in . Complete log of gas and oil changes and everything ever done to the truck . |
Re: Who has their Warranty Card & Protecto Plate
Yes, mine is like a credit card you might keep in your wallet, the others are imprinteurs that would go into a manual credit card-like machine. I always called them ka-chunk-chunk machines. We still have one at our business. Credit cards themselves would have been pretty novel in 1967.
It now occurs to me that the protecto plate would be ordered by the dealer when the buyer's information was collected. I wonder, then, if the buyer received this in a package in the mail after taking ownership of the truck, or with the truck when it was special-ordered? All I can say is that discovering these in the truck was a pretty amazing moment for me, like buried treasure. It very nearly ended up scooped into the trash. |
