window slot bowed, too wide, any fixes?
 

hello folks

so i have a 70 stepper that i have a love/hate relationship with. the drivers door appears to have been tweaked out when po was messing with vent windows maybe? the belt line window trim doesnt hold window from both sides and will allow moisture down into door! i know the little brackets below the vent have broken loose from each other, and i can fix that but i dont think that will pull the outer door in enough. any ideas on how to pull the inner and outer door together to close that up?

i searched for a while but dont know what to reference this problem to...

thanks -thats a good find!

yeah i mentioned those brackets, i dont think it will solve it, its pretty far forward. i planned on doing a rosette weld to those brackets when i get it apart again.
i tried before but didnt use enough heat and it came loose but it didnt fix the slot while it was holding. i measured...

anyone think of a way to press the panels together to remove the bow? (without screwing up the paint or causing dents)

I haven't dealt with this exact issue so I can't offer a sure fire solution but I've seen those paintless dent removal (PDR) guys work some crazy magic with their tools. Maybe try to find a good one in your area. There's plenty of access when you remove our inner door panels. Maybe they could pull it back into place. Unless you think there's some Bondo or other body filler on that door skin, then all bets are off if you start to push or pull on it.

Maybe some large c clamps with small wood blocks. Maybe some pieces of rubber or leather to protect the paint under the wood blocks? Just an idea.

still working on this( among lots of other stuff) anyone know what the correct width of the window slot should be?

You say it's pretty far forward like at the vent window? Do you have a lone screw or screw hole on the inside under the vent window? My 72 has a countersunk screw that when tightened pulls the door together at the vent window. I believe only the 72 has a countersunk screw. It needs to be loosened to get the outside gasket up far enough and when tightened squeezes the door and everything together. I found this forum.

I asked for a photo earlier as I don't believe there is much you can do. Unlike newer vehicles the lower window felts/trim don't keep water out. They only serve to prevent the window from banging or scraping on the door and to keep the bigger pieces of debris from falling inside the door.

Since there was nothing electrical inside the door GM didn't waste money trying to keep water out of inside the door. They merely punched some holes so it could drain out and called it good enough.

Well they also put a seal under the interior door panels to keep the water from running out of the bottom of the door panels. As shown in this thread.

The window gap on my Burban's doors are all between 1 inch & 1-1/8".
